CURRICULUM MISSION
At Maranatha it is our mission to provide an excellent curriculum that prepares students for life and eternity. The word curriculum derives its meaning from a Latin word for ‘Pathway’ and that is a good way to describe our approach to curriculum development - we aim to provide, for our students, a pathway of excellence in learning.
An excellent curriculum has the following characteristics:
It builds a solid foundation for future learning
Literacy and numeracy skills are a priority for us. In the Early Learning, Junior and Middle Schools an emphasis is made on preparing our students to be proficient in reading, writing and numeracy skills. This foundation forms the basis for all learning that follows.
It is age relevant
As our students mature the learning pathway broadens. By Year seven in Middle School, students are beginning to choose options in subjects such as Technology, Drama and Food & Nutrition. From then on the educational pathway increasingly provides students with the opportunity to focus on subjects and areas of learning that relate to their interests and abilities. Along with this is a continuing focus on the essential core subjects of English, Mathematics, Science and Studies in Society & Environment.
It responds to Technological advances
Maranatha understands that our students are living in the digital age. The College has invested heavily in cutting edge technology that will enhance the teaching and learning environment. Teachers and students have access to mobile trolleys of laptop computers and interactive whiteboards are being installed in all the general learning areas. With the technology comes a shift in classroom pedagogy and specialist staff are employed to mentor and equip teaching staff in developing creative and innovative methods of teaching.
It equips students with the skills for life long learning.
Our students are being prepared for an effective and fulfilling participation in society. Our curriculum is imbedded with a Biblical world view giving an anchor to the values that will guide and equip students as they move into adulthood and the wider community. By the time our students graduate from year twelve they have travelled a path that has offered them the opportunity to acquire skills and knowledge that will be of life long value and use.
Why not join us on the pathway to excellence in education for life and eternity?
