MIDDLE SCHOOL
YEAR SIX TO YEAR NINE
Young adolescents need positive self-confidence as they grow towards independence. At Maranatha the purpose of Middle School is to provide a cohesive and collaborative educational community and to challenge children aged between 11 and 14 years to be more Christ-like in beliefs, values and behaviour.
Students in the final years of primary school and the first years of secondary school are caught in the middle of a system which is often designed for the needs of students at either end of it. This is not always appropriate for the needs of the young adolescent. While there is great heterogeneity between students, there is considerable agreement on the identifiable characteristics and developmental needs of adolescents as a group. As students adjust to physical, social, emotional and intellectual changes, teachers will work along side them to develop individual learning strategies and help them in their social development. Middle school addresses the structure, curriculum and the science of teaching for this particular age group.
Pastoral care is provided by form teachers and our college counsellor. Year 6 - 9 students can choose to be involved in after school music, sporting activities and homework classes.
There are many stimulating specialist subjects available to students from Year 6 to 9 to motivate and excite them in their learning.
